Used for years in industry to shield delicate electronic components
from EMFs, magnetic shielding alloy is now available at affordable
prices for home and office use. This 80% nickel alloy is easy to trim
with scissors and shape by hand. Can be formed into magnetic barriers
on cellular phones, microwave ovens, doorbell transformers, VDTs,
buried wiring, and more. With snug fitting shapes, get as much as 75%
attenuation of the magnetic field with one thickness. Use multiple
layers for even greater reduction. Foil is available in two sizes and

Attenuation is the ratio of the magnetic field strength on one side of the foil
compared to the field strength on the other side.
You can estimate the amount of magnetic field reduction (Attenuation)
produced by a cylinder of .004" Magnetic Shielding Foil of a given Diameter (D, in inches)
if you know the Permeability (P), with this formula:
Attenuation = 0.004 x P/D
For example: You would expect a 8:1 reduction (88%)
from a 10" cylinder in a 1 kHz field where permeability is about 20000
Attenuation = .004 x 20000/10 = 8
Shielding Foil Installation Notes:
1) Cylindrical shapes generally provide more shielding than flat layouts.
2) Allow at least 1" overlap & achieve good foil-to-foil contact at all seams.
3) Do not solder or weld. Heating permanently reduces shielding effectiveness.
4) Spacer shims of 1/16" to 1/8" between layers improves shielding effectiveness.
5) Avoid sharp angle bends in the alloy.
6) Foil can be glued, screwed, nailed, taped, riveted or stapled to a supporting surface.
7) Use metal primer first if you are going to paint the foil.
8) Apply protective covering to all exposed edges. They are SHARP!

Joint Shield When you need more than one Mag-Stop Plate to
cover an area, how do you handle the joints? Joint-Shield is the
perfect solution! This is a generous .010" thick, fully hydrogen
annealed magnetic shielding alloy with adhesive backing (rated 0 -
200?F) on one side. Simply butt the Mag-Stop plates tightly together,
and "tape" over the seam with Joint-Shield high permeabilty alloy. This
method offers much less bulk and better appearance than the old overlap
technique and provides excellent shielding integrity. Simple to use:
just cut to desired length with a heavy scissors, peel the protective
backing and press into place!
Joint-Shield can also be used by itself as an excellent magnetic
shielding material when a 4" width and adhesive backing is desirable
(wrap it around wiring and conduit, speaker magnets, even small
appliances like shavers and hair dryers!). Joint-Shield can be shaped
by hand, without the need for special tools, but watch the sharp
edges.

General Information:
Pressure sensitive adhesive (peel and stick) on one side of the
material permits quick and easy prototype and shield fabrication by
hand. The material exhibits an aesthetically clean and bright metallic
surface. The annealing process leaves the alloy "dead soft" so it
should be protected from denting and scratches. Bending is possible,
but gently rounded bends are favorable to sharp creases and acute
angles. Great care should be taken to avoid heating
this material above 400?C since heating will affect the grain size and
deteriorate shielding properties. Unfinished edges may be sharp so care
should be taken during handling, and proper finishing of edges is
required to protect end user.
Maintenance:Because of its high nickel content, this alloy
is highly corrosion resistant. Cleaning is simple with a soft cloth, or
you can use mild soapy water (be sure to rinse well and dry). If
required for cosmetic purposes, this material can be spray painted or
adhesive veneers may be applied.

Silver Print Conductive Ink This conductive coating consists of finely
divided silver powder in a methyl methacrylate binder. It can be
applied by brush, screen, dip or spray. Suitable for application to
most materials: paper, films, plastic, rubber, wood, metal or ceramic
and it air dries at room temperature in 16-20 hours or it can be forced
dried at 140?F for 1 hour. The coating must be fully dried to achieve
maximum conductivity.
Uses include PC repair, add-on circuit traces,
electrical contacts where solder is not practical, shielding seams and
small gaps. Electrical resistance of a 1 mil dry coating will be
approximately 0.2 Ohm/sq. or less.
It is extremely important to keep the material
thoroughly mixed during application as the silver particles do settle
out of suspension rather quickly. Butyl acetate can be used as a

Installation Instructions
Place Metglas as close as possible to the source of the field for best results.
Use an insulator to avoid direct contact between Metglas and covered metal conduits or wires.
Enclose the source (cylinder shapes) whenever possible.
Overlap and tape all seams for good metal-to-metal contact.
Avoid sharp bends and don't use helix (spiral) shapes.
Do NOT allow Metglas to contact live bare wires to avoid electrical shock!

compared to the field strength on the other side.
You can estimate the amount of magnetic field reduction (Attenuation)
produced by a cylinder of .004" Magnetic Shielding Foil of a given Diameter (D, in inches)
if you know the Permeability (P), with this formula:
Attenuation = 0.004 x P/D
For example: You would expect a 8:1 reduction (88%)
from a 10" cylinder in a 1 kHz field where permeability is about 20000
